Not for a small person! Sep 16, 2008
I have had this backpack for about a year. The construction of this bag is perfectly fine. The features are everything you'd expect from timbuk2. There are two primary reasons I rated this product a three, rather than something higher. The first is that the backpack straps are kind of odd if you intend to use this as a briefcase or a traditional messenger bag. They're thick and padded, and don't really stow away very well. When you try to tuck them, you get a weird, bulky shape that is unnatural to carry. The second reason is the fit/comfort level of actually wearing this as a backpack. I'm an average to small woman - 5'4", 115 lbs. I have broader shoulders, but this bag is still really uncomfortable to carry. The straps are sewn in at weird angles, and the fit causes my back to hurt after carrying this bag around over the course of a day. (I am a student, and I either take public transportation, a bike, or my scooter to campus.) Perhaps a bigger person wouldn't have the same issues.
On the plus side, the features are awesome; file compartment, key lanyard, lots of pockets, appropriate padding for a laptop, and plenty of room for my books. I continue to use this backpack because of these features, but will eventually replace it for one that is more comfortable.
